Greenwood Eagles Varsity Clinches Lead In Eighth Inning For Victory Over Mauldin

Greenwood Eagles Varsity stole the lead late in the game in a 9-8 victory over Mauldin on Friday. The game was tied at eight with Greenwood Eagles Varsity batting in the top of the eighth when Will Godwin singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Greenwood Eagles Varsity built a four-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Mauldin’s charge. Mauldin scored four runs in the failed comeback on a, a walk by Miller Clement, a walk by Carson Sloper, and a single by Garrett Gray.

In the first inning, Greenwood Eagles Varsity got their offense started. Godwin singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Mauldin knotted the game up at eight in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gray drove in one when he singled.

Mauldin scored four runs in the fifth inning. Mauldin’s big inning was driven by walks by Clement and Sloper, a single by Gray, and by Davis Aiken.

Jarrett Dillashaw started the game for Greenwood Eagles Varsity. He allowed five hits and four runs over four innings, striking out eight. Cooper Guest started the game for Mauldin. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and striking out three.
