Greenwood Eagles Varsity stole the lead late in the game in a 3-1 victory over South Aiken on Wednesday. The game was tied at one with Greenwood Eagles Varsity batting in the bottom of the sixth when Preston Evans drew a walk, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Greenwood Eagles Varsity pitchers struck out six, while South Aiken pitchers sat down ten.
Braylon Barbour was credited with the victory for Greenwood Eagles Varsity. He went one and one-third innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out two and walking zero. Garrett Hodges threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
AJ Deibel took the loss for South Aiken. He allowed six hits and three runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out nine.
Davis Shirley started the game for Greenwood Eagles Varsity. He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out three.
Wells Gunter went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Greenwood Eagles Varsity in hits. Greenwood Eagles Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Carter Lewis had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
Hayden Howell led South Aiken with two hits in three at bats. South Aiken was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Tucker Rabun made the most plays with ten.
