The Greenwood Eagles wrestling team traveled to Lugoff-Elgin today for the first round of the 5A wrestling playoffs. The Eagles fell short of the victory to HIllcrest with a 48-21 defeat. The Eagles started out 0-27 giving up one forfeit and two pins. At 106 pounds Jacob Anderson lost his match in the final seconds with a takedown by Hillcrest. Carter Anderson also lost a very close match in the final seconds to the #3 ranked kid in 5A at 113 pounds. Grayson Brandt was able to decision the #7 ranked kid at 120 pounds and Jaqion Williams was also able to get a decision at 126 pounds. Adam Clinemyer was able to takedown and ride out the #3 kid at 132 pounds in a 5-4 win for the Eagles. Reginald Lark came through with a huge pin at 138 pounds and Raistlin Lee fell just short of a decision with a loss of 8-7 at 145 pounds. Dean Peeples got the Eagles right back in the match with a second period pin at 152 pounds. The Eagles were not able to overcome in the next three weight classes. The Eagles end their team season at 18-11 and 3rd place in Region I 5A. They also had 5 ALL-Region wrestlers and 7 All-Lakelands wrestlers. The wrestling team will continue as individuals on into the 5A upper-state championship held at Laurens High School on February 15th(@4:00) and February 16th(@9:00).
